Migration policies impact Swedish tech sector

The Swedish Migration Agency’s tough policies are continuing to impact the Swedish tech sector, writes Dagens Industri. The number of foreigners in the tech sector who have had applications to extend their work permits denied has nearly doubled in recent months. The head of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Maria Rankka, who is critical of the Migration Board’s policies, says these numbers will only continue to rise. She argues this means that Sweden is effectively throwing away the competences and the people that Swedish companies need to continue their growth and development. Morgan Johansson (S), the Minister for Justice and Migration, said earlier this week that the rules regarding renewing work permits need to be revised, confessing the current rules are not effective.
