Sven-Erik Österberg appointed Governor of Stockholm County

The government has appointed Sven-Erik Österberg (S) Governor of Stockholm County.  In a comment to Sveriges Television Österberg said, “Stockholm County is the capital region and a county with strong growth, but also with challenges, not least the housing situation and infrastructure.”

Sven-Erik Österberg has served as Governor of Norrbotten County since October 2012.  He was a member of the Riksdag for the Social Democrats from 1994-2012 except in 2004-2006 when he was Deputy Finance Minister in the Göran Persson administration.  Österberg was group leader (chief whip)  for the Social Democrats in the Riksdag from 2008 to 2011.

Sven-Erik Österberg succeeds Chris Heister (M), whose appointment expired on 31 August 2017. He will take office on February 1, 2018. The appointment is for four years.

(Mundus Note: Thomas Bodström (S) was previously appointed as a governor in Stockholm, but the appointment was withdrawn because of Bodström’s previous involvement in the scandal-ridden pension company Allra.)
